Jonas & Ines
The Regulated Athlete never started as a business. It started because we both went through something we couldn’t understand on our own.

Who we are
Jonas was a rowing world champion and a year later barely able to train. Ines was a European rowing champion and a sports scientist, and still missed what was happening to her own body.
We both made the same mistake: we optimised symptoms instead of understanding what lies beneath.
These two paths became one shared piece of work. Today we work with athletes and entrepreneurs who are standing exactly where we once stood.
We call ourselves Ecosystem Builders. With every ambition your outer ecosystem grows: training, team, clients, responsibility, family. Your inner system has to carry it. That’s where we start, so the outside can keep growing.

For a long time I believed performance meant always doing more. More training. More discipline. More toughness. And to be honest, it worked for a long time. In 2014 I became rowing world champion.
A year later I could barely train. The diagnosis: Epstein-Barr virus, massive inflammation markers, a body in permanent alarm. The doctors prescribed six months off. But something in me knew: if I just carried on like before afterwards, I’d be back at square one.
During that time Ines was by my side. She showed me things I had never considered as an elite athlete. Nutrition, gut health, recovery, minerals. And even more important: what it feels like to accept help.
After a few months I was back at 97 to 98 percent of my former performance on the rowing machine, with maybe half the volume. Today I train one to two hours a week.
I only understood why it worked later, in my master’s thesis on ecosystems. Since 2004, when I started rowing, I’ve been working with systems that have to play together: first in the boat, then in companies, today with athletes and entrepreneurs.

I was a sports scientist. I knew how bodies work in theory. And still, for years, I didn’t notice what was happening to my own.
At some point I couldn’t make decisions any more. I forgot appointments. Even simple things overwhelmed me. When my doctor signed me off sick, there was no relief. It felt like losing control.
During that time Jonas was my greatest support. He never wanted to fix me. He gave me something I hardly knew before: the feeling of simply being allowed to be. Without performing. Without having to prove anything.
Then came yoga. For the first time in years I felt calm again. And at some point I understood something that changed my life: all my life I had tried to earn my worth. Through performance, discipline, recognition from the outside.
